The Lord Is My Strength
Description:
The LORD is my strength and my shield. My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart exults, and with my song I shall thank Him. ~ Psalms 28:7
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. ~ Psalms 46:1b
LORD, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in time of distress... ~Jeremiah 16:19a
The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. ~ Psalms 18:2
I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." ~ Psalms 91:21
I paired these words with this torus-shaped chain link because of its high-tensile strength. This style of chain, also referred to as a transport chain, is a link chain with a high tensile strength used for drawing or securing loads.
The Lord is my strength when things get heavy. He can handle it; whatever it is in your life that burdens you. His strength makes your burdens light. Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken. ~ Psalms 55:22
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. ~ 1 Peter 5:7
Delight yourself in the LORD; and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He will do it. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light and your judgment as the noonday. Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who carries out wicked schemes. Cease from anger and forsake wrath; do not fret; it leads only to evildoing. For evildoers will be cut off, but those who wait for the LORD, they will inherit the land yet a little while and the wicked man will be no more; And you will look carefully for his place and he will not be there. But the humble will inherit the land and will delight themselves in abundant prosperity. The wicked plots against the righteous and gnashes at him with his teeth. The Lord laughs at him, for He sees his day is coming. The wicked have drawn the sword and bent their bow to cast down the afflicted and the needy, to slay those who are upright in conduct. Their sword will enter their own heart, and their bows will be broken. Better is the little of the righteous than the abundance of many wicked. For the arms of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD sustains the righteous. The LORD knows the days of the blameless, and their inheritance will be forever. They will not be ashamed in the time of evil, and in the days of famine they will have abundance... ~ Psalms 37:4-19

Mercy
Description:
Illustration of Jesus writing in the sand.
The girl stands unaware of the mercy she is about to receive. Her sin fully exposed. Caught in the act of adultry. According to Jewish law, the law of Moses, anyone caught in the act of adultry was to be stoned to death. John 8:1-11.
The pharasees used this girl to trap Jesus. Would he uphold the law? Jesus turned the situation into a story of mercy.
This painting illustrates how Jesus got their attention by being a peacemaker. He courageously knelt down not once, but two times to write in the sand in front of an angry, ready-to-kill crowd. Some think he was gathering his thoughts, but consider the situation and the end result. I believe he was writing their sins into the sand.
When he said, "He who is without sin cast the first stone", the crowd dropped their stones and dispersed. The oldest ones first.
Jesus is placed in a vulnerable position between the girl and the angry crowd. The girl's uncovered hair, in a time when woman covered their hair in public, symbolizes her exposure. Her body is wrapped in a white sheet representing both the shame she feels and her wrapping herself in the cleansing forgiveness she is about to receive.
Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?"
"No one, sir," she said.
"Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."

Persecution
Description:
Personifying persecution in the form of gossip, mocking, anger and skepticism.
The idea for this painting came to me immediately. However, it was several months before the idea was put on paper. I wanted to personify the type of persecution that we see here in the United States.
The original intent for this painting was to depict religious discrimination. Mainly towards Christians; which is getting worse in American society.
Matthew 5:10 & 11 ~ Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me (Jesus).
Any type of persecution or discrimination on any level is wrong and hurtful.
Judge not lest you be judged.
Brothers, do not complain about one another, so that you will not be judged - James 5:9
I've had people tell me that they thought the man in front was Jesus. One of the cool things about this painting is that this can also be a depiction of Jesus being mocked and persecuted before he was put on the cross. He bore the pain of intense persecution; being mocked, spat on, punched, getting his beard pulled out, and his skin torn to pieces with a cat-o-nine tails whip and he endured it all for our sake. What this image does not depict is the affect of the whip on his flesh. When they were done whipping him, he did not look human because of damage the whip had done. The cat-o'-nine tails was fixed with sharp pieces of bone and/or metal. Each time it struck his body the nine whips tore his flesh and caused profuse bleeding. The Jewish law at that time was held to tightly; to not whip a man more than forty lashes or scourging Jesus recieved 39 lashes. Christ literally shed his blood for us. By His wounds we are healed - Isaiah 53:3-7
God loves us so much that He gave His one and only son so that whosoever believes in him may have eternal life - John 3:16

About Jani:
Jani is an award winning water media and graphite artist who specializes in horses and people, but can paint or draw anything. Many of her watercolor paintings have pastel and/or India ink added. 'Sometimes watercolor alone just doesn't capture the depth needed to tell the story. When pastel or ink is added, it just feels more complete.'
'Lately, I've been exploring a new media - water mixable oils. Loving it so far.'
Her painterly style is what she calls impressionistic realism.
'Although I am capable of doing photo-real work, I like having my art lean towards a looser rendering of the real and leave a little to the viewer's imagination.'
She also enjoys photography. Her natural ability for composing a painting works for her in composing a photograph. 'I love photography; especially when I find abstract images that look like paintings.'
In her portraiture, she excels in capturing the personality of the person or animal. 'A big part of a likeness is a person's or animal's personality.'
