"Abide With Me"

Rev. Henry Francis Lyte

One of the hymns I love most is "Abide With Me" in my opinion one of the most beautiful hymns of all time, which is close to my heart because of the Durham Light Infantry.

Henry Francis Lyte

The hymn was written by a Scottish preacher named Henry Lyte (1793-1845)

Eventually Lyte became the preacher of a small fishing village in Devon, England, where he suffered ill health. He was advised to move to a better climate for his health. He decided to move to Italy but he never completed the jouney and died in Southern France.
